Baptism of Maria Lucia
Week of October 19th, 2009
Well this was a good week. Maria had her baptism and the spirit was really strong. When she bore her testimony she said she felt clean and happy. She's a humble lady and her first Sunday she paid tithing. First time I've seen that in my mission.

We sisters have gotten a little behind on posting, and I am feeling a little guilty. Here are all the pics we have gotten recently, in no particular order. Sorry Seth, I will try to do better!We all got to talk to Elder Jenkins this past Mothers day and it was so wonderful to hear his voice! He sounds amazing and calm. My eyes well up with tears every time I think of him, and how proud I am of him! What an amazing young man he is, such an example to all of us!
Emmy tells people that her Uncle Seth is on a mission teaching people that "Jesus is our gospel!" His service is blessing the lives of us, his family! Thanks Sether! We love you!

Well i didn't have a death experience this week but it was pretty chill. I have my office responsibilities down and guess what I'm driving in Tegucigalpa. Its pretty scary at times but you just have to be really defensive and honk the horn allot. Its fun.
Mom and Dad I hope you all are feeling better. I know how you feel it sucks but it will pass and you'll be better from that bug soon. Well today at 11.00 we are going to presidents house and are going to eat steaks. Yes.. I love this part about the office the Chaverri's always feed you really good. And also we have a nurse that's from Utah that works in the office and she and her husband work here. So I'm going to talk to her about the responsibility of making cinnamon rolls. They are cool there names are the Adams. They are going to cook food for us this Sunday. Yes American food.
Anyways Jamey i love how Jaydan is liking athletics sign him up for a bunch of sports. Why has everyone been sick at your house lately? I hope all is well now. And Brenna Whats up sis you still alive? Send some pics of the fam of the girls. Hope all is good. Sari whats going on back in the land of enchantment? You still supporting the big and majestic t-shirt that mom came up with?

Well I received a phone call last night and I found out I'm getting transferred. I spent all the night packing and now I'm here in the office with President. I'm being trained right now by an Elder Guernsey. He's showing me what the crap are my responsibilities and so forth. So i figure I'll at least be here for 6 months. I am kind of nervous but I'll learn my responsibilities and where ever God wants me to be that's where I' ll go. The good news is I'll get a truck and get to drive Hermana Chaverri or other elders around. I'm basically a slave but oh well. my p days are going to be on Saturdays. So you will be receiving my emails on Saturday.
So I'm scared about having to drive in this country they are freaking nuts. The guess why i think I'm in here is because i think they were looking at my driving record and saw i don't have any faults so they were just like lets pick Elder Jenkins. Anyways I'm here I'm kind of mad but oh well. I do get a cell phone and a truck but I'm in charge of the baptismal records and finding the papers for partidas, or marriage papers. i know sounds fun. we do get to work a little bit in the afternoon so I'm excited about that. Well I'm in the mission headquarters so this will be an interesting 6 months.
Anyways whats going on in New Mexico? Megan's getting married wow thats crazy. Well we did have an baptism her name is Claudia it went really good I'll send pics. Letter from Feb. 9, 2009
Well i was at Internet this morning but the place we go to on Mondays keeps breaking down. So I had this long letter but i have to rewrite it again. But that's OK we cant have fun on p day so they still haven't changed the rules about playing basketball or soccer.
Well i have an interview with president tomorrow and I'm going to talk to him about building a little casa for a poor member family. But yeah things are going good here in Honduras. I was kind of mad this week because we had 5 baptisms lined up but only one person is going to get baptised. Also we have to build the temple in a different part of Honduras or Tegucigalpa because the catholics are saying all of this garbage so now we have to move the spot of the temple. So the church is working on that right now.
Well what is going on back home? Has anything changed in Carlsbad probably not. Mom send my portable dvd player they are allowed in the mission. and i want to use it to watch church movies with investigators. Also send pics of me and dad hunting and the family in Europe. Tell sari i love her and that i hope all is well with the family situation. Brenna sari and Jamey send pictures of the kids on the Internet. It is nice to see something from America.
Dad you need to find Jake a good female stud dog to make some more good hunting dogs. Well i heard Joseph will be entering soon. Tell him its all good and be grateful he doesn't have to be in the MTC for 2 months like me. The Spanish language is going good i feel I'm at a 6 out of 10. But i want to keep working on it. So i continue to practice and read my Spanish material and my kid books.
Rachel had another kid tell her congrats. Jamey that's a crazy story about your neighbor killing his wife. Does Matt have a gun in the house? i hope he does who knows how many crazy people live by you. Its good to have it for protection.
But yeah in Honduras there really isn't a law. i don't know how it functions. You just cant kill someone. It is weird I've met people who are like 40 and they're married to a 15 year old. Latins are weird. Speaking of marriage is Megan Mccutheon married? I heard she is serious or something of that matter. Does Steven M. have a lady? I miss pretty girls all the girls here have a whole bunch of gold and silver in their teeth and are just catrachas.
Dad it sound likes the house is looking pretty nice. i cant wait to lay down on carpet when i get home. Tell Layne Derick Devin Justin whats up for me. keep sending them my pictures. We are going to baptise Claudia on the 14 of this month. And i haven't killed elder Lowe yet he's just a nerd red head kid.
Well keep praying for me i love you all so much. Thanks for your example tell grandpa Hand I love him and hope God helps him with whatever he wants to know. Tell grandma thanks for the package i love the ties.

Well guess what? I'm still in the same freaking area! By the time next changes come I'll have six months in one area. I was kind of pissed at first but hopefully the time will fly by then I'll see a new area.
Well this week was an interesting one a lady in our ward died and we went to the funeral. It was a different experience once they die here they have to have a service quick then bury them or else they will stink. So that was interesting. It just made me think about how precious life is and you got to live it up because you never know if your going to drop dead.
Also my comp is an annoying red head kid who talks too freaking much. I'm not going to lie Ive had to restrain myself from giving him a good beating. Oh well 5 more weeks with him. Well dad it sounds like the whole house is under remodel. Just don't give mom ideas or she will make you do more. I can see your frustration because mom takes forever to make up her mind on that kind of stuff.
What is going on back in the states? IS gas still cheap? I hope so. Gas here is around $2.70 or so. Well we challenged this family for baptism the other day and she was like "I need more time." I hate those words but we set a goal with the familia Castro for the 21 of this month. And also there is this girl named Esmy so we will hopefully have 4 baptisms more before i leave. Mom how is school going for you? Are you still driving the car or are you driving my truck? Actually i bet dad is and he probably parked the Chevy in the garage. Well i really miss hunting. Those were fun times. Dad sign up for an oryx hunt or something so when i get back we can hunt something. Are we having any rain or snow im guessing we didn't have enough due to the quail this year being so few in number.
Also i know everyone in my area. I just want to leave but i guess president wants me there for a bit longer. So max is home now tell him whats up for me. Did Megan adopt a kid? Hows Jake and two bits doing? Jamey that is cool your letting the kids skip school once and a while. I remember when i was skipping my sophomore year and we were at the twins house and dad came in and slapped Derik in the head cause he thought it was me. That was a fun day. Brenna is Daisy walking send pictures of her walking to me. Sari hope all is well keep scouting out the ladies for me. And Brent the quail. Well i love you sisters. That's awesome the Steelers won because my comp likes the Cardinals so I'm glad they lost.

Catching up, sorry everyone at the Jeppson house has had Strep throat. January 26th, 2009
Hey sorry about the delay i was in the Internet cafe this morning and all of the computers just shut down. So Anyways I'm writing right now. Today was p. day and we had elder Arrolo make us tacos they were good. He's from like the Juarez Mexico area. Anyways it was good to have Mexican food. Because Hondurans do not like spicy food. So that was fun he also told me that he has visited El Paso before and he snuck over there. That wasn't a surprise. Also changes are the 28 i hope i get to leave i want to beat the crap out of elder Lowe sometimes he's just one of those people that bother me.
Anyways its all good changes are in 1 day so I'm excited I'll probably get to leave. The other thing is i was talking to president during my interview and we had a good talk and he told me my Spanish was good so that made me really happy. Also all 3 of our baptisms went really well and we got them all dunked so I'm glad they went through. When i baptised Fidelina i dunked her hard because Ive been working on these papers for like 4 months so i made a big splash. Lowe baptised Roberto and Aurelio baptised Hector he is a cool kid. Oh and i got the umbrella package and grandmas tambien. And tell grandma she sent me Tommy's package also with the sport clippings.
Dad I'm sorry mom is making you remodel the house i wish there was something to hunt. I really miss hunting too i have to endure this 2 year drought but it will be alright. I cant wait to hunt again with you we will slaughter whatever is in season. Mom so are you carrying a gun now since you got your license. Well Sean i got your letter and all of it is true. I was happy when i saw the subject but you got me. Its true all of them have gold and silver in their teeth and don't work and have 3 wives. But I'm doing my job in taking them the gospel.
Jamey you have been really emotional lately in your letters. Are you pregnant again? ha ha j/k. Sari I'm glad you are doing good in your new environment. And Brenna I'm glad your doing good and Daisy is walking. wow. But whats going on in the states? I hope Pittsburgh wins the Superbowl because my comp is a Cardinals fan and bugs the crap out of me. Mom did you find that book Austin miller gave me? And did you send my American flag and sling shot? Well maybe my next letter to you all will be from a different part of Honduras. I heard Megan found a kid to adopt that's cool. How is Steven McCutchen doing tell him hello for me. And Megan McCutcheon for me is she married yet?

Jan. 19, 2009 The one with Roberto and his accident
Well I'm pumped and excited we have 3 baptisms this Saturday. So We finally got the papers yes. Well We only had 7 investigators in church. i know that's still good but i want more. It was funny the other day we were driving around with Elder Massiah the AP to work on these papers. And we were in the office and president asked me how senior comp is going and all that. So i don't know what he's going to do usually gringos get moved to senior at 6 to 9 months. i only have 4 so i don't know What hes going to do. Changes are the 28 so I'm excited i will finally see a different part of Honduras.
Well my comp is a little nerdy kid but oh well changes are soon. Oh and tell Joseph welcome to the club for me. I'm happy for him and hope all is well. Tell him to learn the Bible as much as he can. You use it a lot we use it a lot because its a catholic country. Well we have this investigator Hermana Castro and shes really positive she's come to church 2 times so hopefully well dunk her soon. We found her from a reference and she has had all of the lessons before. But her husband wouldn't let her get baptised. Anyways he left her and now we are able to teach her again. She's sad of course but all she told us is that he left. So i found out the real story that her husband had killed someone and is hiding. My friend that works for the Honduran FBI told us that. So That Was very shocking to find out.
And the other story is we were taking Roberto and Fidelina to church so we're at there so called house in the jungle waiting for them. First off let me tell you Roberto is interesting. He says he was taller than me before his accident. But he's lying he's a 5 foot Honduran. Anyways we're waiting and he like hits himself in the nuts hard! And he said that since the accident he lost his nuts. I don't know why the heck he told us that. I don't know if that's a proud thing to admit. But yeah he kept hitting himself and kept saying "see it doesn't hurt." We were like OK that's interesting lets go to church. But that was my weird experience of the month. Mom did you send my American flag? And sling shot. are you sending the pics i send to everybody? Lets see i heard Arizona and Pittsburgh are going to the Superbowl. That's crazy were going to go to an American restaurant today and try to get some glimpses of the playbacks.
What has been going on back home? I'm glad everyone is doing good and the businesses are doing good. Dad it sounds like moms making you do a bunch of house projects. oh sari i laughed when i saw the picture Chloe drew. Where did she come up with that idea? Lets see and Jamey i hope your doing good. Love the mail. Brenna have you gone on any dives? Please send pictures of the kids. Well the work is going good and the Spanish please send me my book its called Tall Spanish book its in the computer room.

Hey whats up family I'm glad to hear things are going good back in the land of the free.
Well this Sunday was awesome we brought 11 investigators to church a new record. So i just hope they continue to come. Well life in Honduras is very interesting i was sick for like 4 days but just had to tough it out. That's cool Florida won there qb is pretty good. well mom I'm glad your're sending me my sling shot. I just want to kill an iguana while I'm here and have a guy make scripture cases out of it. That is one of my goals when i go to the south. Choluteca or Danli.
Well what else it sounds like Brent and Sari are settled in pretty good. And I loved the pics with Jamey and Matt and the kids it was cool. Brenna and Sean i love the dp chap stick. Oh and you'd never guess what happened. I found DP in a store so i was happy. It was amazing! I hide it under the bed in a box so when Hermana Chaverri checks up on our rooms to see if they are clean she doesn't discover my DP. The mission has a bunch of dumb rules but oh well just have to learn to adapt to them. Mom send me an American flag like the size of a pillow case i can hang on my wall. Well Spanish is going good. We have a conference with President Clark tomorrow. I have a feeling were going to get shaved because that's what happens when he comes. He's in the 70 and the head of all Central America. Well what else? I don't know where I'm going to eat today but i think I'll hit up Wendy's or something good.
I'm glad you guys get to watch football without me. Man i miss sports center and soccer is stupid. Mom dad i love you thanks for all you do. Love you family. tell Devin and Derick and Layne hope all is well with them in their missions. Hopefully there will be quail when i get back so i can shoot them. I just hope our dumb president doesn't try to take our guns. That would be funny if he tried that.

I just want to kill an iguana while I'm here and have a guy make scripture cases out of it. That is one of my goals when i go to the south. Choluteca or Danli.
Well what else it sounds like Brent and Sari are settled in pretty good. And I loved the pics with Jamey and Matt and the kids it was cool. Brenna and Sean i love the dp chap stick. Oh and you'd never guess what happened. I found DP in a store so i was happy. It was amazing! I hide it under the bed in a box so when Hermana Chaverri checks up on our rooms to see if they are clean she doesn't discover my DP. The mission has a bunch of dumb rules but oh well just have to learn to adapt to them. Mom send me an American flag like the size of a pillow case i can hang on my wall. Well Spanish is going good. We have a conference with President Clark tomorrow. I have a feeling were going to get shaved because that's what happens when he comes. He's in the 70 and the head of all Central America. Well what else? I don't know where I'm going to eat today but i think I'll hit up Wendy's or something good.
I'm glad you guys get to watch football without me. Man i miss sports center and soccer is stupid. Mom dad i love you thanks for all you do. Love you family. tell Devin and Derick and Layne hope all is well with them in their missions. Hopefully there will be quail when i get back so i can shoot them. I just hope our dumb president doesn't try to take our guns. That would be funny if he tried that.

Jan. 5, 2009! The one where Seth swats a huge bug with the Book of Mormon DURING a discussion. Nice one little bro!
Hey dad and mom and everyone. Well things are going good. I'm kind of pissed though they banned basketball and soccer in the mission. So this has made allot of people mad. Sometimes i feel like a slave but that's just part of the mission. Well other than that things are going good the language is growing every day.
Well it was funny yesterday we were teaching a lesson then all of a sudden this huge flying bug thing was flying over our heads. This thing was HUGE so i got my Book of Mormon and took a baseball swing and hit the crap out of it. Anyways the distraction was terminated so we could continue the lesson. I wish i took a picture to show how big it was.
Oh and we were walking in the more ghetto part of my area and we saw a rat that was at least the size of a cat. It was nasty looking. Well i decided I'm going to build a house while I'm in my mission. Not here in la Honduras but maybe when I'm in the south. in Choluteca or Danli. That's crazy how Utah won that game. lets see what else. Oh Elder Lowe is kind of annoying sometimes but i gotta deal with it. But we have been teaching allot and hopefully we will have 2 more baptisms by the end of this change. That would be awesome, changes end the 28. Well that's cool you got a lap top for Christmas (mom). It sounds like mom has allot of projects going on in the house. I'm still learning how to deal with people who don't keep there promises, when they say I'll come to church and don't show or I'll read this and don't read. Its frustrating but I'm doing allot better at not getting mad. Well dad please send the doctor pepper. I think I'll still play basketball with the gringos but we gotta do it in secret. If i get in trouble oh well i played a game. I do not think this rule will last. Lets see hows Brenna and Jamey and Sari?

Dec. 29th 2008 Letter to family
It was sure nice to talk to the family this Christmas. I'm just happy and thankful all of the family is doing well. Well Sari Jamey And Brenna whats up? Did you all have a good Christmas? I hope you did. Well my new comp is a little weird white boy from Arizona. I'm teaching him street smarts right now because he really doesn't know any. But he is book smart so I'm learning allot from him and it just makes me want to study harder. Today i think I'm going to eat at McDonald's. They are really good down here and they give better service than a nice restaurant in the states. Whats going on in the USA? I heard the dolphins had a good season. What happened there? They sucked last year. Well I'm pretty much adapting to the environment around me. Seeing people dig in the trash and weird stuff here doesn't bother me as much. So I'm adapting. Mom send me Layne's address. The majority of the Latin missionaries here are from Guatemala or other parts in central America. So i got houses and places to stay at after the mission in these different countries. I'm glad Joe is pumped and ready to go. It was nice to talk to him. Well I'm still in my same area and hope I'll see a different part of Honduras during my mission.

Dec. 29th 2008 Letter to dad...the one with the Oldies Music & (Jake the dog had gotten into a porcupine)
Hey Dad well I'm glad to hear you made it off the mountain. Well i got a story for you. The other day we were contacting because none of our appointments fell through. So i told my weird comp lets go contacting. So were walking in this area and all of a sudden i hear beach boys music. I was like what the heck American music so i was like were knocking on that door. So we knock and this lady lets us in and we get to know her a bit she has 3 sons. And while i was sitting in this room talking with her i realized i have seen this place before i had deja vu. But anyways she's like our best investigator now and we've seen her like 4 times in a row this week. But i feel like God led me there because he wants me to be there. HE led me there in a different way but the thing is i followed the spirit and also the American oldies music and knocked.
This is where I'm supposed to be. I'm learning more to pray for the direction of the spirit and to always pray that he may loosen my tongue when i do this always my days are allot better. When i don't i struggle with the language and throughout the day. Dad thanks for your prayers and love. I'm thankful you are my father. I just hope i can be a percent of what you are. Monday Dec. 22, 2008 New Companion...surprise it's a Gringo!
Well first off you'd never guess what. That's right i got a gringo comp his name is elder Lowe. He knows his Spanish really good he's already finished 3 years of college and all that stuff. So I'm learning allot of Spanish from him. I'm still in my same area so hopefully next change ill get a new area.
Well mom and Dad I want you to call this number at 8.30 a.m. my time. 00504-2285447 that is the number to my church so if you want to talk call it. If you cant get a hold of me I'll call from someones cell or in a couple days later because everything is closed during Christmas time. But yeah the mission is going pretty good its an interesting life. Tell Jamey I did open my package and I've had my Christmas tree up for a long time. And I'm saving my stocking so I can have something to open for Christmas. Well whats going on back home? Its disappointing that BYU lost the Las Vegas bowl. But oh well it was cool though we had a Christmas activity in the stake center and after wards we went to get pizza and there was a TV and I knew that the game should be on that day. So I found it and I saw BYU score 1 touch down. That made my day to see a couple minutes of American sports. I hate soccer with a passion that's all they do down here.
But we have 6 gringos in our zone so we are going to play some basketball today then afterwards we are going to get some good food. Tell Megan Mendoza I got her letters. Please keep me informed in whats going on with family and sports. Well I love you all so much and I'm continuing to work hard every day. Where is Joseph going on his mission? I love you sisters and family. Keep praying for me please I need as much help as I can get. I hope you have fun eating good American food for Christmas. I get to eat tamales woo-hoo!

Monday Dec. 15, 2008 Letter to the family
Wow that's cool Layne is training. I don't think I'll get that opportunity for about 5 more months. Well Spanish is coming great but i still must continue to study my butt off. Oh OK we baptised Cindy it was kind of a crazy day. Well the story starts off elder foster and i went on divisions in my area because he had to interview her. So the interview goes great and we decide that her dad is going to baptise her. He's a convert new and all. So we're thinking this is a great opportunity to build the bond more. So the day of her baptism arrives and the dad does not show up. So I'm like oh crap elder Celino. So thank goodness elder Celino had baptism clothes for the dad. So he put those on and we got er done and dunked her. He wanted me to do it but i told him "Elder Celino those pants are like shorts for me man. They wont fit me so you do it."
Well I'm just glad the mission was accomplished. Well lets see i think I'm going to be in my area for one more change so I'm going to call from the church or I'll see if I'm here. Well things are going good here in the land of Honduras. Mom what's uncle bill's mailing address? Whats Layne's mailing address? Well Cindy is going to get baptized on the 13 this upcoming Saturday so that's way cool its set in stone. So that's what made my week this week.
Oh and the last p day I wrote you guys after I arrived to the church i just started hurling my guts out because i ate my salad. That's right mom you can't eat it here because people poo on it. Lets see what else happened taught allot of lessons and I got your packages there are 2 of them. Haven't opened them yet I hope there's allot of good candy. Please send twix candy and snickers, and some more good black shoes that you can get from lyle folsoms office. The shoes here are terrible and don't last too long. Oh send some good jelly beans the jelly belly ones. Ok but I'm thankful that I have my strength back and I'm doing good now. Its not fun to be sick on p day, because that's the day of the week you look forward to.
Oh in the pic mom it is Elder Champlin and Pett at the Jesus statue. And everyone calls the president Presidente Chaverri. No but last night was cool we got to watch the Christmas special in the stake center.
